Welcome to the Queens Gazette’s Medical Issue, where we highlight the gold standard health options we have within our wonderful borough.
Many Queens hospitals have been honored for their quality of care in all specialties, by their in-demand, highly qualified staff and for their cutting-edge facilities and equipment. The celebrated Mount Sinai Queens Stroke Center, opened last month, is quite literally world-class as the first and only center of its kind in the world (“MSQ’s New Cerebrovascular Stroke Center,” Queens Gazette, June 26). They were also recently honored by the United Hospital Fund Tribute to Excellence in Health Care, as was New York-Presbyterian Queens. To name another award-winner, Elmhurst Hospital Center was recently honored for its stroke care, and has received the Baby-Friendly designation by the World Health Organization and UNICEF; Elmhurst also opened a new Medical Primary Care Center, and renovated both its ophthalmology clinic and Behavioral Health unit for geriatric and frail patients. (See Gazette articles: “Excellence In Stroke Care…,” July 16, 2014; “Elmhurst Hospital Opens Inpatient Behavioral…,” January 29; “NYC Health… Earns Prestigious ‘Baby Friendly’…,” April 9; “NYC Health…Renovated Ophthalmology…,” May 14; and “New Primary Care Center…,” June 14.)
In addition to convenient access to the best care in every specialty at our superb Queens medical facilities and offices, we also have the most well-appointed gyms here. To keep us strong and in vibrant health, these centers offer the latest trends in fitness, the most up-to-date equipment, and guidance from the most professional trainers.
Having the best health care options such as Mount Sinai Queens with their massive investments in facilities, equipment, and staff, stimulates the local economy by providing hundreds of jobs in health and in construction, and by attracting and supporting peripheral businesses. This makes the entire area more sought-after in general, and the ability to select from among the best health care is a major factor in making Queens the best place in the world to live.
We salute health and fitness providers for always striving for – and achieving – excellence. We can rest easy knowing that whenever we and our families need it, we have the best health care in the world right here at our fingertips.
