LACEY, NJ — Melissa Hinkelbein has endured strong competition in her quest to become “Ms. Health and Fitness 2019.” The Lacey business owner reached the top 2 percent of Muscles & Fitness Magazine’s annual competition. Now she needs your help.
Hinkelbein, 35, co-owns and serves as master instructor at the Art Hinkelbein Martial Arts Academy. You can vote for her daily to become a finalist.
Hinkelbein stands third in her group as of Wednesday morning and must finish in the top two to advance. Voting ends at 11 p.m. Wednesday, so each individual can vote three times. Your votes can also support Homes for Wounded Warriors.

The winner gets featured in a two-page spread. Last year’s champion, Amy Howe, was featured in Muscle and Fitness Hers and took home $20,000.
Here’s what Hinkelbein said she would do with $20,000 in her submission:
“For me, even in my business, it’s always more about influence than money. If I can help one person feel better about themselves, that’s an amazing accomplishment. If I were selected it would open up my influence to help more people & that would be the best gift. I would definitely save some of that money to pursue my dream of opening a gym w/ my martial arts school attached, but I’d also love to give away martial arts scholarships & donate to local charities, especially dog rescues.”

Hinkelbein told the magazine she has practiced martial arts for 26 years. She later fell in love with weightlifting.
